Triad was founded in 1992 by Barry Lewis with a vision to bring high-quality mobile communications to rural America.  That vision was realized by the acquisition of under-valued cellular spectrum licenses, ground-up construction of wide-area rural wireless networks, and development of innovative sales, marketing and operating techniques.  In 1997, the highly profitable operating company was sold to Western Wireless Corporation.

As the rural cellular business matured, Triad expanded its focus to FCC spectrum auctions.  Beginning in 1995, Triad participated in multiple auctions across the Cellular, PCS, WCS, AWS, 700 MHz and 600 MHz bands.  Typically pursuing value-oriented strategies, Triad focused on acquiring undervalued licenses and walked away if prices exceeded preestablished limits.  From 1995 to 2016, Triad and its affiliates purchased 202 licenses representing 1.3 billion MHz pops of spectrum depth. 

As undervalued licenses came back into favor, Triad liquidated portions of its spectrum portfolio to buyers including AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon at multiples ranging from 1.5x to 2,050x acquisition cost.  Triad and its affiliated companies continue to hold spectrum portfolios in the 600 and 700 MHZ bands.
